Among the various types of needlework, quilting occupies a special place, which has nothing to do with quilling - paper curling. The technique is akin to patchwork, because there is also a moment of stitching together pieces of material, from which, with a certain quilting algorithm, not only bizarre patterns are added, but also whole pictures. Quilting is easy to learn, even without turning to a professional, although it will take a lot of training.

Quilting: what is it?

Quilting: what is it?

Initially, one should understand the very concept of quilting and its difference from the already mentioned patchwork. The latter implies a simple combination of pieces of fabric, which differ from each other not only in pattern or color, but also in texture. Quilting can also be called a complicated patchwork: here the fabric elements are also sewn, but they necessarily fit into 3 or more layers. Thus, if the patchwork is used to create small items such as tacks, napkins, etc., then quilting is recommended for sewing quilts, blankets, and so on. Thick things. Such a three-layer composition of the craftswoman is called a “sandwich”, which consists of facial tissue, a sealing gasket and a purl.

Working with a sewing machine when quilting also has its own characteristics: the fabric does not move automatically, but manually, because the pattern is created by you personally, and not by the technique. Professionals recommend and refuse to pre-apply the pattern of the pattern on the front side, but if you have not yet become skilled in quilting, you can ease your task by carefully drawing a sketch with a soap or pencil. In some ways, this technique can even be called machine embroidery, but in a simplified form, because the patterns on the fabric are monochromatic and schematic, and the volumetric shapes are obtained by stroking the desired outline.

Quilting is not a simple technology, but very attractive: if we forget about the strict work algorithm inherent in any activity, there is a huge amount of creativity in it that allows the craftswoman to express herself. Do not be afraid of failures and continue to improve your quilting skills: perhaps inept training stitches will eventually develop into a harmonious picture.
