Many years ago, it was noticed that some people find it easier to work in the morning, and some in the evening. Fans of the morning hours were called the larks, and evening ones were called owls. Scientists as a result of their research revealed that larks make up 33% of the total population, owls - 17%, but the rest belong to the intermediate type and have the same performance in the morning and evening, they are called pigeons, or arrhythms.
If we talk about the brightest representatives of owls, they include commander Gai Julius Caesar, the Swedish king Charles the Seventh, English naturalist and traveler Charles Robert Darwin, English writer Samuel Johnson, and the larks - the first Russian emperor Peter the Great and commander Alexander Suvorov. It is worth noting that sleep time is far from the main feature of a particular group. For the main indicator should take the time of greater brain activity. At owls, the greatest activity begins in the afternoon, and the peak of activity begins at 9-10 in the evening. In larks, the peak of activity falls at 10-11 am and lasts until 3 pm Pigeons have almost the same performance at any time of the day and are adapted to both late and early rising.
Who are you: an owl or a lark?
There are several ways to determine which group you belong to. The first is a temperature test. When you have just woken up and not yet got out of bed, start measuring the temperature in the armpit. After that, you can start doing everyday activities, for example, get ready for work. After one hour, measure the temperature again. If you have not noticed the difference in performance, then you can safely refer yourself to the larks, if the temperature rose just a little by 0.2-0.4 degrees, then you are a pigeon, and if the temperature has risen by 0.8 or more degrees, then you belong to owls.
Another way is to calculate the ratio of respiratory rate and pulse (Hildelbrandt index). To determine the index in the morning, measure your breathing rate, and your pulse over a period of time, for example, in one minute, without getting out of bed. Now look what you got: the pulse-to-breath ratio is 4: 1, then you are a pigeon, the ratio is 3: 1 and below, then you are an owl, and if the indicator is 5: 1, then you are a lark. But in this method it is important to follow some rules, to hold it better in your usual time of getting up and it is better to turn on quiet relaxing music, just with a loud alarm clock call your heart starts beating violently and this can bring down the indicators. To identify the most accurate indicator, conduct a test for several days in a row.
Facts about owls and larks
A study was conducted among a large group of larks and owls and it turned out that owls are superior to larks in wealth, memory and general health. But the larks are more purposeful and persistent, unlike the owls.
With our biorhythms are closely related inclination and choice of a particular profession. Owls most often choose the creative profession, among them many artists, musicians, writers. This is explained by the fact that owls predominate figurative thinking and more actively the right hemisphere of the brain. In the larks, the analytical mind predominates and their left hemisphere is more developed, therefore many mathematicians, physicists, engineers and military men are found among them.
By the way, the number of owls increases every year: in Europe their percentage reached 40%, in the USA 56% and many of the representatives of this group are in favor of making work schedules for owls, since it is difficult for them to force themselves to get up early in the morning.
Features owls and larks
Know your biorhythms is important to understand your body and listen to it. This is especially important for women to know, because all the processes in their bodies have a cyclical manifestation. Women's physiological and biological clocks are expressed very sharply. And if you neglect these moments, then you can gain a lot of sores. For example, owls are prone to hormonal disruptions, ulcers and diabetes, and larks often suffer from heart disease and have a weak immune system.
Having defined your biorhythm, try to think about how you can change your lifestyle in order to maximally tune it for the features of your body. Ideally, of course, it is good to choose a job for your type of biorhythms, but this is not always possible. In this case, you can resort to some tricks. The main problem is to go to bed early. To do this, teach yourself not to engage in vigorous activity before bedtime, do something calm and relaxed. It is better to turn off the TV and computer for 1-2 hours before bedtime and take a warm bath, listen to pleasant music or massage your hands with lavender essential oil.
In the morning, owls also lurk a lot of trouble that some owls try to eliminate with cold showers and lots of coffee. As a result, the body experiences stress, loses a lot of energy and in two hours you will feel even more tired. In the morning, one cup of coffee is enough to invigorate, and an ice shower is better to replace with a contrast one. There is another small trick - get dressed in work clothes right away, it will psychologically tune you into active work.
Now about how best to eat owls. People in this group often do not have a strong need for food in the morning, so you should not cram food, you can restrict yourself to some kind of warm drink, but not cold or hot. And after twelve o'clock the owls can eat more tightly.
In the larks, the main problem is wakefulness at night, but if they are going to have some kind of event, then it is not necessary to use energetics or alcohol, cold sour drinks, for example, orange juice or purified water with lemon, are quite good. Also, before waking up at night, you can take a cold shower or make a refreshing foot or hand bath with cool water.
Knowledge of their biorhythms is certainly very important, but you should not completely rely on them, because the body can adapt to us and sometimes it happens that people became larks from owls, and vice versa. In addition, most people belong to pigeons, that is, it can comfortably exist both in the morning and in the evening.
