In order for your table to always have tasty and healthy chicken eggs, it is not enough to start breeding layers in the household. This bird requires good care, first of all, it needs a balanced diet. What to feed the laying hens, so that it’s better to be carried, every zealous hostess should know.

Despite the characteristics of this breed of chickens, egg production can be very low due to the lack of nutrients, vitamins and minerals in the feed. Proper feeding not only contributes to the health of the bird, but also significantly increases its productivity.

Industrial feed for layers: what should be in the composition?

Industrial feed for layers

Compound feed is a mixture for feeding chickens, compiled in accordance with the recommendations for a healthy and balanced diet. The optimal composition of feed for laying hens:

  • protein and vegetable fat;
  • carbohydrates and dietary fiber;
  • animal fat;
  • vitamins and minerals.

If in a certain type of feed one of the ingredients prevails, the products should be mixed. Do not buy combined poultry feeds that contain:

  • growth hormones;
  • additives of synthetic origin.

For feeding birds, which are mostly in an enclosed area, it is best to choose a well digestible bulk product. But those chickens who have the opportunity to go on walks, need granulated food.

  1. 45% wheat bran;
  2. 4% - barley;
  3. 5% - wheat;
  4. 2.8% fish powder;
  5. 3% - cake;
  6. 1.8% - seashells;
  7. 3% - chalk.
  • Premix

This type of feed is combined with a mixed diet. It is designed to meet the daily needs of poultry nutrients. The composition of the premix increases egg production and egg shell strength, shows tonic and immunomodulating properties. This food is replete with vitamins A, K, C, it represents almost the entire group B, there is biotin and essential trace elements.

During the day (the main feeding is two meals a day), the chicken should eat about 80-130 g of feed. If the hen gets fresh juicy nutritional supplements, you need to increase the amount of combined feed to 165 g. Exceeding the daily dose leads to obesity and hypervitaminosis in poultry, which significantly reduces egg production. Therefore, only young individuals feed more intensively (10–30 g more, 3–4 times a day). Food for such chickens should contain proteins and substances conducive to metabolic processes in the body.

How to feed laying hens at home?

How to feed laying hens at home

If you do not plan to purchase special food, you need to know what to feed the laying hens in order to be better carried using homemade products. For this bird the following variant of the daily ration is suitable:

  • grain mixture of corn, wheat, barley, oats - 120 g;
  • wet mash - 30 g;
  • boiled potatoes - 105 g;
  • cake - 6 g;
  • chalk - 3 g;
  • table salt - 0.4 g;
  • bone meal - 2.5 g;
  • yeast - 1 g

Wheat can be replaced by more than half the nutritional norm, since this cereal is a source of protein, vitamins B and E. Barley is also a very nutritious food, containing many trace elements. Corn is rich in carbohydrates, well digested in the form of a hammer, but because of the fat content in the diet for chickens should be a little of this culture. Oats are enriched with fiber, but it is better to first germinate or steamed. Rye, except for proteins, is saturated with vitamins. However, cereals do not contain enough vitamins, fats, calcium and phosphorus. This problem is solved by walking the birds in the spring-summer period on green lawns, as well as fertilizing, consisting of:

  • greens - fresh herbs, tops of vegetable plants, nettles, dandelions, clover, alfalfa, pea and bean stems;
  • vegetable porridge - chopped potatoes, beets and cabbage, mixed with bone meal or wet chop.

Juicy green food should be finely chopped. They improve the functioning of the digestive organs and the appearance of eggs. Vegetable mix quenches hunger and replenishes the reserves of trace elements and fiber, necessary for the formation of eggs. Many novice poultry farmers are interested in whether it is possible to feed laying hens with bread. Remember: a fresh, soft store flour product sticks together or swells in the chicken stomach and can lead to the death of the bird. To add to the germinated grain or mixed fodder, only ground crackers without mold are suitable; The permissible rate of such a powder is not more than 30% of the total feed.

Their health, resistance to diseases, and the compliance of the actual level of egg production to the breed depend entirely on the correct feeding of laying hens. Whatever food option for your chickens you prefer - high-quality compound feed in conjunction with natural feedings or feed, consisting entirely of household products, be sure to maintain a balance of nutrients in the diet.
