A plant like dahlia is quite common on our garden beds. What amateur growers do not know about these magnificently flowering plants? Probably very few of them. But we, we will think, are just beginning amateur flower growers, therefore, we need additional knowledge on the external distinguishing features of the dahlia, the conditions of its planting, and the characteristics of caring for it.
And so dahlia !!!
This is a perennial plant that has a lot of the most diverse garden species.
The appearance of dahlias
Roots in appearance resemble tubers. They are very dense and provide a good supply of nutrients in every cell of the plant.
The stems of the plants are quite dense and tall. Dahlia can reach a height of up to two or two and a half meters. Very well developed root system.
However, it is interesting that in the nutria the stem of the plant is hollow. It is straight and branched, and if you hold it with your palm, then you and I will feel a smooth or slightly rough surface.
All that part of the plant, which is located above the root neck, dies each year in late autumn and is reborn in young spring shoots.
On the stem are leaves. The leaf plate, as a rule, is pinnate, but smooth leaves are also found, although this is very rare.
The length of the sheet plate can reach from ten to forty centimeters. Coloring of dahlia leaves is very interesting. It ranges from rich green to purple hue.
During the flowering period, we can observe lush inflorescences. Dahlia flowers can be, depending on the variety, different shades and sizes.
Dahlia is a seed. An important factor is that dahlia seeds are able to maintain good germination over a three-year shelf life.
No one would argue with the fact that planting at dachas or in dahlia gardens is a very beautiful phenomenon. And indeed, these flowers can be planted as separately (meaning only dahlias), so to combine with other vegetation, creating whimsical, intricate images of plantings.
However, few people use dahlias for planting not in open ground, but in home, so to speak, conditions. And in vain! The lush flowering of dahlia can please you and at home. This is especially true of those of us who have no summer cottage or garden plot.
For landing use the proper terrain. Refers to well consecrated, warm and dry places. At home, dahlias will be protected from the wind, and this is a huge plus for their growth and development.
Keep a short distance between plantings, if you decide to plant several plants at once in one tub.
The soil can be bought in specialized stores, and it can be transferred from the garden plot, but this is on condition that the soil layer on your garden plot is enriched with humus or other organic fertilizers. Bold loam is the optimum soil for a dahlia.
It is possible, however, and less nutrient-rich soil to thoroughly burn and fertilize.
Dahlias are planted in pits to a depth of thirty centimeters, respectively, you will need to think about suitable for planting capacity.
You can add a little mineral fertilizer to the soil during planting. Then your plants will have a good (very fast) growth.
Don't bury dahlias too much.
After planting, water your plants thoroughly.
In general, dahlias love water and regular watering is a must.
Caring for Dahlias
Dahlias will require good care from you.
First of all, watering. It should be regular and very abundant. If moisture is not enough, then your landing will begin to wither and fade.
Water immediately from the tap is better not to use. Let it settle for a few hours and heat up a little, as watering with cold water is also a destructive condition.
Abundant watering is nice, but stagnant water should not be allowed. It is possible to foresee this moment even when landing and supply a tub or box with your dahlias with a good drainage pad.
It is useful to put plants on the balcony on hot summer days and evenings. Spraying dahlias also love and they will not refuse. Spray water at room temperature at least two to three times a day (meaning summer or warm spring).
Take care that your plants do not fade. If this happens, and you spend regular watering, it means your dahlias have enough nutrients. In this case, you will help mineral fertilizers. It is optimum to part them in water for watering. This increases the degree of absorption of nutrients by the root system of the plant.
Remove dried leaves and damaged branches on your dahlias. Follow the general condition of the plants.
Returning to the subject of fertilizers, it should be noted that the doses for feeding dahlias will directly depend on the fertility of the soil mixture used for planting.
By the way, the first dressing can be done within two to three weeks after planting.
The second feeding is carried out twelve to fourteen days after the first, and the third in the initial flowering period.
You can feed the plant after the flowering period has passed.
