At its core, the curtain tape is a wide braid that serves as a frame for curtain fabric. It sets the direction, size and depth of the folds, keeps the curtain in the desired tension. The cords, previously twisted into bundles, are stretched along the entire length of the braid. After sewing the curtain tape, the tension and assembly are made by means of these cords, and the resulting folds are uniform and fixed. The use of these accessories allows even without the help of a professional to give the desired look of curtain fabric and fasten it with hooks threaded into loops on the product. However, the curtain tapes have many varieties, in which it is not surprising to get confused.

First, it is worth understanding that by the nature of their fastening, they distinguish between attached and thermo-adhesive accessories. The latter is not recommended for heavy fabrics, as it is fixed only by ironing it. But it allows you to avoid holes in places where a needle is punctured, which is important when working with thin, delicate materials. Secondly, depending on the fabric to which the fittings will be attached, pockets for hooks, seals needed by rigid lambrequins, etc are selected. d.

But the main differences that allowed us to see more than 100 different curtain strips on the store shelves today are the transparency of their material, width, shape of the folds, the number of harnesses passed through the accessories. All these factors are necessarily taken into account when choosing. And if some of them depend only on the taste of the buyer, then some require you to build on the acquired curtain fabric.

In particular, if it is not dense, it is advisable to select a transparent curtain tape that does not become a foreign element. For thin fabrics, it is recommended to pay attention to narrow versions of fittings, and, consequently, for heavy and dense ones - more broad.

Dr. moment - the functionality of this hardware. There are versions for pipe rails that do not imply any fastening: the tape will later be put on the pipe itself. If it is necessary to attach the hooks to the wrong side, loops are attached to it. Such a curtain tape will be called "Velcro". Roman french curtains, in addition to horizontal assembly, also need to create vertical folds, for which a special vertical ribbon has been created. Additionally, you should focus on the label given by the manufacturer. So for organza the letter "T" is affixed, for transparent fabrics - "/ Z", for lungs "F", and for dense "Z". Curtain tape for universal fabrics has the symbol "U", and the numbers with the letter "K" indicate the coefficient of assembly.

Accessories are always selected after purchasing a fabric curtain. Therefore, if you started to think about ways of sewing curtains, it is assumed that the main material is already available. It is important to make sure that the length of the curtain tape is enough for the available fabric, for which the coefficient of its assembly is studied in detail. It is easy to decipher it: it looks like 1: N, where "1" is 1 m of curtain tape, and "N" is the width of the curtain fabric. To this indicator must be added 8-10 cm, which will fall on the hem. At the simplest assembly, N is often equal to 1.5; for puffs and ruff a little more - 2; 2.5 m of fabric per 1 m of tape will be required for bantovye folds and radial folds, and all 3 m for triple and cylindrical ones.

Before you start to apply the curtain tape to the fabric, it is important to process the very cloth. Here the main task is to prevent possible shedding at the edges. For this purpose, adjacent threads (2-3 pcs.) Are pulled out with a small indent from the edge. It is most convenient to do this with a needle, after which a path is formed along the web, along which the excess is cut. This procedure is carried out around the perimeter of the curtain fabric. Then its height is adjusted, if necessary. In this case, an additional strip is left, equal in size to the width of the curtain tape with an increase of 0.5-1 cm.

This increase goes away in the next step, when it bends inwards along the top edge and is swept away, and then it is ironed out. The curtain tape is applied to the compacted part of the fabric so that there is a 0.5-1 cm indent from the top edge. At this point, you should make sure that the fittings are in a relaxed state: i.e. it is not tightened with harnesses, the tape is absolutely flat.

Then it is required to grab a few single stitches to the fabric with several wide stitches. On the side of the furniture, there is also free space left to the edge of the curtain - already 1-1.5 cm. After that, the curtain tape is sewn with a finishing stitch on the sewing machine, for which 3-4 lines are made of wide copies depending on the number of cords: of them.

The final stage is the processing of the side edge. To do this, a double fold is made: first, the empty section of fabric near the tape is folded in half, then it is bent again, covering the edge of the fittings. It is important not to close the tension threads at this moment: they should be released outside a little earlier, leaving a free area between the hem and the beginning of the harnesses. On finishing the finishing stitch along the folds along the curtains, the procedure for sewing the curtain tape is completed.

Learning to sew a curtain ribbon on tulle

It is recommended to start a trial of sewing curtains with inexpensive tulle to get your hand crammed. On it, as well as on organza, thin, narrow curtain ribbons are selected, most often from transparent polyester. They are fastened with extreme caution, since such a fabric will not tolerate a few punctures in the 1st place. The width of such fittings does not exceed 2.5 cm and does not have complicated screed patterns: basically it forms the classic accordion folds. Additionally, when sewing, the foot pressure and tension of the threads are adjusted: ignoring this item will lead to damage to the tulle.

The pattern of sewing the curtain ribbons to tulle is identical to that described earlier. But you should pay attention to some points that are characteristic of this thin material. The indentation when combining the upper edge and accessories is enough to make a 0.3 cm, denoting this border finishing line. The tape itself is fixed in 2 lines: upper and lower. Moreover, it is necessary to have tailors' pins, which will slightly hold the crawling fabric, preventing them from losing direction and skewing the design. The area over which work is being carried out, under the foot, is stretched along with the tape in both directions and is immediately fixed with a thin stitch with a small step.

At the end of the sewing procedure, many people forget an important detail: the cords with which the curtains are tightened. From the edge, they are tied together in a knot at the very end, in order not to prevent reverse stretching before washing the curtains. It is for this reason that it is necessary to pull the harnesses a little earlier than at the edge of the fittings, leaving a small free length. When the curtain comes together, gaining all its folds, the cords will hang down the side, becoming an extra piece in the interior. Therefore, professionals recommend on the same inner side, exactly under the place of harnesses out of the curtain tape, to create a small pocket from its piece, where the edges of the cords will be hidden.

Having studied all the tricks of sewing on a curtain tape, you can easily simulate original curtains for your home. Despite the seeming difficulties, this fittings greatly simplifies the task, and practicing on less expensive material will allow you to verify this personally.
