Modern refrigerators make life much easier, because they do not need to be defrosted, like Soviet models. Came to the rescue drip defrosting system of the refrigerator. This is exactly what made the snow stalactites on the panels in the past. But the current technology has prepared for the consumer and something else.
Refrigerator defrost systems
Refrigerators differ from each other not only in color, shape, dimensions, power and price, but also in defrosting systems. There are several types of such systems, of which the most popular today are:
- no frost ("know frost").
Well, the old refrigerators are not equipped with any system at all, and defrosting has to be done manually, and also quite often.
Thaw drip system
The principle of operation of the defrosting drip system is based on the phenomenon of condensation. Thanks to a special technology, the rear wall of the refrigerator is cooled the most. It is on it that the condensate formed turns into frost. Periodically, this rear panel heats up (due to automatic shutdown of the compressor), and ice crystals turn into water. Droplets flow down the wall in a special tank, and from there evaporate.
Today, refrigerators with a drip defrost system are more common. Reviews about them are pretty good. So, the owners of such units in their responses say:
- acceptable quality and long service life;
- democratic price in comparison with more "fancy" analogues;
- the real absence of the need to defrost a refrigerator and, as a result, simple use of equipment.
No frost - what is it?
Super modern refrigerators are equipped with a no frost system (which means “no frost”, that is, frost). Special technology allows you to not defrost any refrigeration or freezing. This home appliance also has a compressor and an evaporator (as is the case with the drip system). However, its difference is in a special cooler. Air flows through the fans. Due to this, the cold is distributed evenly across all cells and shelves. Thus, the temperature is about the same - on the top shelf, on the bottom, on the door. In addition, thanks to the technology "know frost" provides rapid cooling. And, if you opened the refrigerator door for a long time in search of tasty food, after its closing, the required temperature will recover quickly.
It cannot be said that in frost systems with no frost system, no frost is formed at all. This is not true. Just the process is hidden from the eyes behind the back wall, and therefore you will not see the flowing water on the panel. Condensate through special discharge channels falls into a separate container, from where it evaporates.
Which system is better?
When choosing between two systems, you should consider the pros and cons of each method of defrosting.
What is good drip system and what is its advantage over no frost?
- Such refrigerators are much cheaper than appliances with the no frost function.
- Low noise level at work (as opposed to "rivals").
- The wide range of products presented (the range of refrigerators produced with this defrosting system is much wider than the “frost know-how”).
- Spacious cameras, which is very practical.
Among the shortcomings, it is possible to single out the non-equipping of the freezer with the system of drip defrosting, therefore, from time to time it will have to be defrosted on its own (approximately once every 1-2 years). So in this regard, the refrigerators "know frost" benefit. They are much easier to maintain.
As already noted, the system no frost has 2 more significant advantages:
- uniform distribution of cold in all compartments;
- quick freezing.
From minuses it is possible to designate the following:
- fairly high power consumption;
- fan noise (although not in all models);
- the high cost of both the product itself and its repair and replacement of any parts in the event of a breakdown.
If you do not want to spend a lot of money on the fridge and it doesn’t make it difficult to defrost the freezer once a year, you can choose a technique with a drip defrost system. If you pursue high-tech and do not mind investing more money in them, then you can opt for a fridge with the function "fro fro". In any case, both options are acceptable, because modern refrigerators are practical and of good quality.
Climate class refrigerator - what is it?
Whatever refrigerator you decide to buy, when choosing, do not forget about such a parameter as a climate class. Each letter (S, SN, ST, T, etc.) indicates a specific temperature, which should be in the room where the refrigerator will be located. On this depends its service life. For example, N denotes a normal class, which is suitable for residents of Russia and Europe, where the temperature does not exceed 30 ° C (it is indoors, not outside). And for hot regions, ST or T class is suitable. If you improperly operate a refrigerator (not according to its class), you may be denied warranty repair.
The dropping system of defrosting a refrigerator is no longer a novelty; such units have already managed to give a good account of themselves. But refrigerated cabinets with the no frost function are not yet so common, although more and more customers are opting for high technology.
