In dry climates, irrigating the soil is the main condition for the normal growth and development of plants. Nowadays, there are many methods of manufacturing designs for drip irrigation. But in order to make it, it is not necessary to buy special parts, you can use the usual plastic bottles, which are at home in almost everyone!
For the manufacture of such a device will need a small piece of foam rubber and a plastic bottle. To begin, the bottle must be pierced from the side (the holes should be small), then fill it with water (not completely) and insert foam rubber in the neck. Then you need to put the container on its side so that the drops fall on the roots of plants that need to be watered. The system of such irrigation is based on the fact that the foam rubber, by which the bottle neck is closed, lets air bubbles through itself as the water level decreases.
You can also hang the bottle, with a pre-cut bottom, stopper down over the beds with plants. Cork in such containers should be easily unscrewed. First of all, the bottles must be carefully screwed up, hung on a home-made pole and filled with water. Reducing the water level is regulated by unscrewing the plug. In order for the water to gradually flow out, the stopper needs to be opened not much, but in order for the water to start flowing out with greater intensity, then more. One more plus this method - the water warms up perfectly, which has a good effect on watered crops.
Such watering is often applied to such tilled plants as tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. In order for the soil to not be eroded by drops, on those areas where they fall you can put pieces of film about the size of a postage stamp, lightly sprinkling them with earth.
Drip irrigation garden
Drip irrigation garden is called a method of irrigation, in which water flows through the piping system directly to the roots of plants. With such irrigation, the energy and water consumption decreases by 2-5 times, and the rates of mineral fertilizers, which fall with the water into the root system of plants, increase by 3-4 times!
For the first time such irrigation was tested in the publication Vegetable Production in 1997 in the south of Ukraine, and now it is very popular in Kharkiv and Kharkiv region.
This method of irrigation is considered environmentally safe, economically feasible and safe method of irrigation as the berries, vineyards, orchards, vegetables and melons with the growth in open ground, and various agricultural plants in garden plots and in the greenhouse. During such irrigation, water does not fall on the leaves of plants, respectively, the possibility of developing diseases is reduced. Even with this method, you can control the pH of the soil and deal with various pests.
Gardeners who use this method of irrigation can get a harvest earlier than others, because with this method water is not consumed in the aisle. The soil is moistened evenly, the moisture of the soil layer, in which the roots of crops are located, is constantly maintained at the same level. The roots on the soil are not formed, the loss of moisture, taking into account evaporation, is reduced. Productivity increases by 40-50 percent, salinization of the land is prevented.
Along with this, it is possible to control the rates of application of mineral fertilizers, because they will flow directly to the roots of plants with water. The most important thing is to choose highly soluble feedings to avoid clogging of the nozzle holes.
Drip irrigation do it yourself
The advantages of this method of irrigation of soil include the economical use of water, time and labor of gardeners, soil improvement, as well as the absence of the appearance of famine crops.
The basic principle of this method is quite simple: water can be supplied both periodically and continuously, but in small doses to each plant. The soil is thus insured against drying out, and the roots of the plant develop in the place where the soil is most optimally moistened. Water comes to the plants warm, because due to the slow passage through the pipes, it manages to heat up.
To begin with, before carrying out such an installation, you need to determine the plan of planting, thereby calculating the length of the beds and the distance between each plant. After that, it is necessary to cut off pipes of the desired length and connect them into the system. It is possible to apply an opaque material for this, since black polyethylene - algae will not begin to develop in it. It is better to tilt the pipes slightly - about 1 cm per meter, fixing them on the sixes, and not to make them too long - no more than 8 m. Then you need to make holes for the nozzles and insert them into the tubes, the diameter should not be large - it will be enough 15 mm. In the role of nozzles fit plastic parts of ordinary medical droppers. After you can test the system by supplying water, if deficiencies were noticed, they must be eliminated immediately.
The flow rate of water can be adjusted by changing the slope of the pipes. To observe the operation of the pipes was more convenient, the entire system for irrigation can be raised slightly above the ground - by 20 cm.
Only after this, plants are planted near each nozzle. If the cultures themselves are small, then they can be planted at once in several pieces. After planting, the entire soil must be made by a layer of 5 cm.
But, in spite of all the advantages, such an irrigation system has its drawbacks, consisting in the fact that water can simply not reach the last holes if its pressure is weak. And if you open the water stronger, then all the pipes will work, only then there can be no talk of any savings, and the plants can be damaged. The solution is quite simple - you just need to serve water in portions.
If you want the seedlings to give a good harvest, then you need to water it regularly, paying special attention to the period after planting on the garden plot or in the greenhouse. Drip irrigation is a good way to save energy and water during this manipulation. It will not be difficult to build it yourself, but do not forget to follow the instructions so that your works are not in vain!
