The phrase Dreamcatcher sounds very intriguing and mysterious. Many are already familiar with such an interesting thing, although for Russia it is more new. There is even such a film with the same name based on the work of Steven Spielberg and, although the picture has well advertised Dream Catcher, there are very few similarities between the purpose of the thing and the plot.
What is a Dream Catcher?
Dream Catcher originally appeared as a protective amulet of Indians, which was made by some tribes to protect against bad dreams. Indians were convinced that the amulet drove away bad dreams, and good and able to benefit opposite lures and misses.
Others believe that it is wrong to consider Dream Catcher a legacy of only North American Indians, as references to the dream spirit trap are found not only among the indigenous people of America, but also among the peoples of Siberia, Asia, and the North.
The Dreamcatcher looks like a sieve - a round base with strained threads that form a variety of patterns.. Each of the patterns is very symbolic and has its own value. For example, if you take the Indian Catcher, he is able to attract good and bad dreams. And when all dreams become entangled in their web, nightmares cannot pass through their tenacious nets and dissolve with the first rays of the sun, and the good ones slowly but surely penetrate the consciousness of the sleeper, bringing him happy and serene dreams.
Traps of the peoples of Siberia have a slightly different purpose - these are certain things of power in shamans who are a conductor in many dream practices. Spirits that fall into the web are not divided into bad and good. When it is time to sleep, they descend along the central thread to the sleepy shaman, becoming vivid images. This gives dreams more agility, sharpness, even somewhat harshness, as working with such a Catcher involves a fight in which you need to emerge a winner. Perhaps such images are not always the most pleasant, but they help to realize oneself inside the dream and to understand many moments of one’s inner life. However, the use of such a dream catcher should be extremely cautious, as the inept use of a trap sometimes leads to extremely sad consequences.
Materials for making Dream Catcher
You should be aware of the importance of this thing and understand that it is not just a toy, but a conductor between the real world and the world of dreams. If you go too far, you can always stay in your dreams and not find your way back. This is not just a fictional story, it really happens. But, of course, for this to happen, you need to be very keen on the world of dreams and regularly practice with the Dreamcatcher, so you should not worry too much.
- The first thing you need to make a Dream Catcher is a new wicker.
- The second is a white stiff thread, better from cotton, but not synthetic. The thread can be replaced with a leather long cord.
- The third is light feathers. They should be selected on the basis of external aesthetics. Of course, ideally, eagle feathers are required, but it will be very difficult to get them. Therefore, you can replace duck feathers or some other bird. Although some argue that magic is magic to follow all its laws, that is, not following the exact formula may not give the effect that was expected. On the other hand, things are only things, the main thing is our thoughts and intentions, the rest is only auxiliary elements. However, you decide, of course.
- The fourth component is optional - these are large beads of any shades. For this it is better to take natural materials.
That's all that is required. And, of course, do not forget to tune in to the appropriate wave, otherwise no Trapper will help you.
How to make a dream catcher?
The best time to make a Dream Catcher is spring or summer. Find a willow growing near the river bank and break off a twig from it, kindle a fire and warm the twig for a couple of minutes. Then knead on the fold and roll into a hoop with a diameter of 30-40 cm.
Now start braiding the hoop around the circle. But do not tighten the thread too tight, while not letting it "hang out". Also, make sure that your entire structure does not fall apart. Each thread begin and end with knots.
When you do weaving, go to the web. Take a strong, but at the same time thin rope, about 1.5-5 meters in size and preferably a natural material. Then braid the mesh inside the ring. In the process of work constantly do the same normal knot. Take the rope and easily, without tension, flip it over the top of the ring. Then put the rope on the opposite side and stretch it into the loop formed.
Tighten each knot tightly, but not with all your strength, because otherwise the ring may twist and the Dreamcatcher will not take on a flat shape. Continue weaving the ring to the place where you started the work. From a knot to a knot, retreat about 3-5 cm, and on average around the circumference you get 7-13 knots. The last stitch is made when there is 1 cm left before the initial eyelet. We continue the weaving next, because the Space of the Catcher must all consist of a small cobweb.
At subsequent stages, knots should be tied at the center of the previous stitch. With a good and tight tension of the rope, the stitches of the previous circle will be slightly pulled to the center, forming a diamond shape of the cells. Reaching the third or fourth circle, you can add a bead, which will be a symbol of a spider. The bead is put on the thread, and the weaving continues further towards the center. In the center, leave a small hole. Complete the weaving at the bottom of the hole and secure the end with two knots, tightening them tightly.
After this, you will need ropes 15-20 cm long to attach several feathers to the center of your talisman. Wrap the tips of feathers in small pieces of felt or felt, carefully fasten with threads or thin ropes in a circle.
It remains only to make a loop on the top and hang your wonderful catcher above the bed. Note that it must necessarily hang, and not lie.
