Appeared in the middle lane not so long ago, cineraria (another name - the baptismal) has already gained considerable love among gardeners. Each type of flower is original and is able to fit into any picture of the summer cottage or even settle on the balcony. Cineraria can be grown from seeds independently.

Cineraria: growing and care

It is difficult to derive general rules for caring for cineraria because each of its species and variety sets its own personal requirements. However, there are several features of the plant itself and its selection for a specific site.

  • Novice gardeners who do not have experience with naughty crops, it is desirable to try their hand with graceful cineraria (Senecioelegans), the most unpretentious in growing and able to bloom up to serious autumn frosts. However, it has a not so luxurious appearance, like in other species - bloody or seaside, although the bushes are rather tall - 0.6-0.7 m.
  • For any of the spiders it is necessary to create a well drained area, preferably with a neutral pH. Some of the varieties allow you to shift the level of acid or alkaline side. The best soil is peat and woody bark, mixed in equal proportions. It is necessary to deal individually with lighting, watering and feeding.
  • It is worth noting that cineraria is propagated not only by means of seeds, but also by cuttings. For this, in the summer season, short cuttings (10-12 cm) are selected from the tops, but this method will work only with a seaside godson. It is possible to extend the period of flowering of any of the bushes, if you dig it up before the cold and move it to a pot filled with soil rich in peat and soddy soil. In terms of the apartment there is a chance to save the cineraria, so that it can be dropped again next spring.
  • Cineraria is very rarely ill; only gray decay is noted by gardeners, which appears when there is excessive watering, affecting the stem and leaves of the flower. Brown spots are also possible - signs of alternaria. And from the pests, the godson is loved only by butterflies and aphids. They are easily expelled by insecticides.

How to grow seaside cineraria seed?

Cineraria: growing from seed

Seaside (or sea) cineraria is grown from seeds far more often than other species of this flower. This tendency is caused by its significant difference from its fellows: if other versions of the plant are acquired and multiply for the sake of the beauty of flowers, the seaside cineraria is valued in the first place for decorative leaves. Due to their silver coating, they are almost universal: they easily create borders at flowerbeds and paths, become a border for bright colors, add volume and background in bouquets.

In fact, the marine cineraria has flowers - small, bright yellow, with terry hearts. But they are so nondescript that most gardeners cut them back in their infancy.

Such an unusual species of a krestovnik from the Mediterranean has arrived; it belongs to the group of perennials. However, in the middle zone it is grown as an annual plant. A pleasant moment in the cultivation of marine cineraria is the shortened period of its growth. If it took the bloody days 14-16 for the emergence of seedlings (counting from the time of sowing), then this species will rise on the 10th day.

It is recommended to sow it at the very beginning of March in order to transfer it to the ground towards the end of spring. As soon as the seedlings appear and get a little stronger, the seedlings necessarily spike - spread to individual pots or cups. And on the same day fertilizing is done with mineral fertilizers.

What is interesting and important to know is that even in the southern districts it is impossible to grow a seaside baptizer right in the open ground (even under film). Therefore, the seedling method is considered the most literate. In the last days of May, the strengthened seedlings are transferred to the site where they will be placed with a distance of 15 cm each.

Sea cineraria makes almost no demands on the soil: it is good if the ground is drained qualitatively and has a neutral or slightly acidic pH. Heavy clay areas are undesirable - better sand or loam, as loose and light as possible.

But the plant requires a lot of sun: the amount of light will depend on the shade of the leaves. In the shade they have only a hint of silver, while under the sun they are almost white. It does not make sense to water plentifully; it is enough to moisten the soil in the initial stages while it is gaining strength. Then enough and natural watering in the form of rain.

Features care for an elegant tsinerariya

Cineraria: growing from seed

Elegant Cineraria, whose homeland is considered to be South Africa, much resembles a tall chamomile: exactly the same inflorescences, and even the leaves are similar. Bushes she does not differ in the pomp that a bloody or seaside godparent, however, care for this species is much easier. It blooms throughout the summer. This together makes the elegant cineraria attractive in the eyes of gardeners.

If a low-acid soil was required for the seaside godson, then this species would be much more loyal to the alkaline or neutral pH. What should be a lot in the substrate is mineral fertilizers. They and the seedlings will be actively fed, and already adults planted in open ground plants. And to the flowering period was delayed for a longer period, the heads are removed as they bloom.

The beginning of April is the moment of sowing elegant cineraria in boxes or in a greenhouse prepared in advance. This is the only kind of godson, not threatening to die during the spring temperature drops. Picks it up when the 2nd leaf appears, seedlings are brought into the ground towards the end of May. In the southern regions of the seedling method, elegant cineraria is rarely grown: it is usually sown directly on the site. Only should wait for the minimum thawing of the earth. In terms of this is usually the middle of April. It is advisable to keep the distance between the landings - it is 20-25 cm.

What is bloody cineraria?

Bloody Cineraria - perhaps the most beautiful representative of her family. She has no visible oval-shaped leaves and a pale green color, as well as medium-sized flowers of various light shades. Because of their shape, this kind of crusader is often confused with daisies. However, the color gives it.

Depending on the variety, it can be white petals with pink ends, muted lilac with blue center, pale lilac with white border inside. And some varieties can boast larger dimensions: for example, the Grandiflora bush height reaches 0.5 m. And Stellata flowers even smaller than most other varieties, but they are like stars and are on the stem height of 0.7 m.

Cineraria: growing from seed

Growing bloody cineraria is a little more difficult than other types of the groundsel: first, it is recommended to sow it immediately in separate pots, and not to pick it up later. The reason is a long waiting time for flowering. From the moment of disembarkation, at least 9 months elapses, before it becomes possible to see the blooming flowers. And taking into account the fact that bloody cineraria grows as an annual because of its instability to frosts, not every gardener decides to plant it in his house.

Sowing is carried out in December, moreover, the seeds do not fall asleep with earth: they are scattered on the top and slightly pressed into the substrate. Previously, it is loosened and moistened. After that, you need to cover the pots with glass or film to create the desired level of humidity and heat. The overall temperature in the area of the pots should be kept within 19-20 degrees, it is important to daily remove condensate from the lid.

In 14-16 days shoots will start to peck. If a picking is needed, it is made only when 2 leaves appear. If not, simply lower the air temperature to 15 degrees. Now the period of setting flower buds begins, during which the plant is rarely fed (with mineral fertilizers) and spilled 1 day later in the 3rd.

In May, cineraria seedlings need to be moved to the open ground. The site for the bloody yogurt is chosen with high humidity, however, without stagnant water in the soil. Light he needs a little less than the seaside view. It is better to protect the bush from direct rays, plant it in partial shade. Under all conditions, the plant will bloom by the beginning of autumn and will live exactly until the thermometer shows -2 degrees. Even such a minor frost will kill the cineraria, so next year it will have to be sown again.

If the difficulties of leaving you do not frighten, be sure to plant a bloody cineraria - the stunning appearance of the flower bed is guaranteed! Juicy paints will be diluted by the seaside godson, and the elegant cineraria will delight in flowers that are reddening to the very cold. Whatever type of preference is given, it will ennoble and make any garden more spectacular.
