Small parasites in the apartment are prerequisites for major troubles. Contemplating insects and their larvae is not just unpleasant: their appearance is fraught with pathogenic bites and so on. Damage to the health of children and adults, as well as pets. And if some parasites almost do not cause inconvenience, the detection of bedbugs on the territory of the apartment is a signal to start a war with them.
Bugs in the apartment: the causes of pests
To understand what actions to take in order to “win the war” with bedbugs, it is important to know why they are staying in an apartment. It is the destruction of their source ensures that more pests do not appear in your home. It should immediately say that the cleanliness of the room for bedbugs does not play any role. They reproduce with the same activity and in the cluttered rooms, and in all relevant sanitary standards.
Since blood is necessary for the vital activity of bedbugs, they can easily be in the house through any warm-blooded animal, especially a frequently walking pet. They lay their larvae in a dark place where the hands of the one who is cleaning do not reach. This is not only a secluded corner that you don’t want to wash every time, but also a gap between the strips of the laminate, sash, doors, etc. And also zones under a sofa, behind a wardrobe, a chest of drawers. They need to be treated with special means for the purpose of prevention especially carefully.
In addition, one cannot ignore the fact that insects "arrive" in an apartment on new furniture, which the dishonest manufacturer did not bother to disinfect before selling, and in warehouses the storage conditions leave much to be desired. And this is typical not only for furniture - you can bring them into the house in almost any wooden or fabric item. There have even been cases of movement of bedbug larvae on clothes from travelers from Thailand, where bedbugs are as frequent as flies and mosquitoes in Russia. And, of course, a fairly common practice is the transition of bedbugs through the vents from the apartment to the apartment, especially during repairs.
What to do and how to recognize the moment of appearance of insects? If the skin is itchy and has bite marks, but there are no obvious reasons, and from under the bed, sofa or chair a broom drives out the larvae and debris of the red-brown color, bugs are definitely wound up in the house. Adults hardly reach 5 mm in length, it is impossible to crush them because of the dense shell, and it is problematic to catch if it is not full. Therefore, the elimination of bedbugs is not an easy task.
Some people try to immediately get rid of infected objects, regardless of their cost and size, but in almost all cases the property and apartment can be saved without such drastic measures. In particular, with clothes and soft toys, if they are suspicious about the presence of bedbug eggs, the easiest way to understand them is to wash them in hot water and smooth them to eliminate the source of danger. With the other causes of bedbugs, the situation is a little more complicated.
Fighting bedbugs in the apartment: the main ways
The main way to deal with bedbugs in an apartment is to call the sanitary services, which carry out cleaning with the help of strong chemicals. The advantage of this method is that not only bedbugs will disappear, but all other parasites, even those that you might not have suspected. However, this is quite a costly measure, and, in addition, finding a professional worthy of the price set is difficult. Therefore, it is often necessary to fix the problem on your own.
Before you begin the treatment of the apartment - with chemicals or folk remedies, you must clean up, which will open access to the main part of the hidden places of stay of the parasites. Remove all fabrics and soft parts of furniture (pillows and mattresses, etc.), if they are not infected, cover the paintings and mirrors, aquariums and cells. It is advisable that pets be expelled from the premises so that they are not affected by airborne substances, as well as the removal of all plants.
Independent use of insecticides, among which Detltamethrin, D-Phenotrin, Synthetic Permethrin and Beta-Cyfluthrin are in particular demand. But each of them has its own radius of action, so most often they are used together: in particular, Permethrin is necessary for the elimination of bugs from metal and wooden surfaces, but it is powerless against fabrics. On soft areas - pillows, blankets, mattresses, clothes - D-Phenotrin, combined with ethanol, is treated. And so that the parasites no longer touched the already cleaned territory, and all the remaining larvae were destroyed, they pass through the room with Detlmetrin and digiturium. After such a procedure, the likelihood that some of the bugs remained in the apartment is 0.05%. The room must be ventilated for 2 hours, and if children and people with respiratory system problems live in the apartment, it is necessary to ventilate for 4-5 hours. The same is true when calling sanitary services.
- In the case of insecticides, there are several other nuances: in particular, the same preparation cannot be used twice, because bugs quickly develop immunity to the substance that they are trying to influence. If your neighbors recommend re-using a particular tool, you can safely refuse it: now this disinfectant simply will not take parasites.
- Today, almost any insecticide can be found in several forms: spray, powder or gel. Liquid mass is usually used for processing large areas - sofas, cabinets, etc. Sprays are used for spraying rooms, and powdered preparations are scattered in the cracks and in small areas. All of them have an unpleasant odor, especially sprays, so you must leave the room during chemical treatment, even if you just scattered powder in several areas: harmful evaporation will still come from it.
The lesser probability of getting rid of bugs in the implementation of other methods of their elimination. For example, the temperature treatment of the room, which again is not available to everyone. It can be performed only in regions with cold winters, since it is necessary to create a drop from -25 degrees to +50 degrees. Parasites are afraid of an unstable climate, because they do not have time to adapt to it. However, in large areas it is ineffective: it is possible to influence the temperature regime only on small rooms or certain areas - a wardrobe, an armchair, a blanket, etc. Thus, for the local zones, they are cooled, and after - sharp scalding with boiling water to create a contrast. Both larvae and adults die instantly.
If you need to eliminate bedbugs throughout the apartment, it is left open in the winter for a few days, for which you have to leave it to all family members. Experts advise caution in this situation and take care of the protection of open water supply, which often breaks at such a decrease in temperature.
The effectiveness of folk remedies in the fight against bedbugs is questioned by experts: all the methods are rather mild, as a result of which not all larvae and adults die. These procedures are more likely to be preventive in nature than to eliminate parasites completely. They should be carried out if you have suspicions in the presence of bugs in a certain area, but you do not want to resort to chemical means because of such assumptions.
- Wormwood is the most important fighter against parasites of various kinds. Its fresh stems and leaves are arranged in a room or locally in selected zones, and are replaced several times within 2-3 days. The essential oils released from the plant and the pungent odor affect not only bugs, but also cockroaches, mice, moths and other pests. True, to be in a room where wormwood is laid out is not very helpful to a person either.
- Turpentine oil is no less disgusting for bedbugs than vinegar or dust. They are sprayed with infected areas 3-4 times a day, leaving the room closed for 24 hours, after which it must be aired. Of course, children, animals and plants in the room treated with turpentine, are also not allowed for 4-5 hours after the procedure for the destruction of bedbugs. For greater efficiency, turpentine is mixed with kerosene and vinegar.
After you manage to get rid of bedbugs in the apartment, be sure to carry out preventive measures once a quarter: treat vinegar and sills with vinegar, bring furniture into the cold or scorching sun, and ventilate the apartment as often as possible in winter. And if the parasites started in the stairwell, it is worth calling the health service - here any popular methods will be powerless.
