The belt is an important accessory that can completely change the image and decorate even the most simple clothes. They create style and determine the tone of the dress: business, relaxed, romantic, bold, playful. The fashion for belts changes as often as for clothes. But despite their huge variety, there are only 3 main types: soft, which is tied on a knot, figured and hard with a buckle - a belt.
The belt should be well combined with clothes in color and style, unfortunately it is not always possible to find a suitable accessory on sale. You can sew a belt yourself, it is not difficult and much cheaper than buying ready-made.
How to make a belt with your hands with a buckle?
Making a belt with a buckle will require a lot of time and patience from you, but it is easy to sew it. It can be made of thin leather or a quality substitute, it will also need to be sealed with a hard non-woven fabric or a special lining-seal for belts. Moreover, the lining should be cut out without allowances for seams. There are 2 main ways to carry the belt on the buckle: classic and accelerated. For the manufacture of a belt, you will need: fabric, leather or dermantin 15 cm longer than the girth of your waist, the lining-seal of the same length, buckle.
Consider first the classic method of making a belt. Open 2 strips of fabric, their width should be equal to the width of the belt you want to get, and the length is equal to the waist girth plus 15 cm. Also consider the seam allowances, optimally 0.5-0.7 cm. Cut out the lining strips with the same length and width as the belt only without allowances for seams. When all the parts are cut, iron the interlining or a special belt sealer onto the outer part of the product from the inside of it.
Allow the oversize on the cuts at the external part to the wrong side along the edge of the seal, as shown in the figure. At the corners of the allowances need to slightly tuck. Align the cuts on the inside part also on the inside. Now iron the two parts with an iron, and then fold them so that the inside of the side is inside and gouge with safety pins. Stitch the belt from the front side around the edges, while also grabbing the inner part.
The accelerated method is somewhat different from the classic. To make a belt, you will need 1 strip of fabric or leather, the length equal to the length of the belt with seam allowances, and the width should correspond to the double width of the finished product. Pad seal length equal to the length of the finished product and the width of one part of the belt, the seam allowances do not need to be considered.
Fold a strip of fabric along and in half, with the front side should be inside. Then begin to grind longitudinal sections. Fold the products so that the seam is in its middle, iron the seam allowances with an iron. Now go to short cut processing. Sew the cuts on one edge of the belt, giving them the desired shape. For convenience, you can use the template for the ends of the belt.
Then cut the seam allowances, leaving a few mm. At the corners of the belt, trim the allowances obliquely, and on the rounded corners make notches. Next, turn out the product on the front side, iron it, paying special attention to the ends and edges. Insert the gasket in the belt with the glue side to the seams, smooth the belt with the gasket with an iron. The final stage is stitching the product along the contour.
Sewing a buckle and wrapping it with a cloth. Having retreated 3 cm from the free edge of the belt, make a small hole and cut a circle using a punch or sew. Sieve the hole with a stitch and thread the peg into it. Wrap the jumper end of the belt and sweep it to the wrong side of the belt with a slanting or zigzag stitch, and then stitch it. Punch blochki on the opposite side. One of them should be at a distance of waist circumference, and all the others with intervals of 3 cm.
Beautifully look buckles covered with a cloth, also this method will help in the case when you can not find the right one in the store. For covering the buckle with a cloth, you can use the same material as for the belt itself or others. To begin with, cut 2 pieces of the fabric from the fabric corresponding to the size of the buckle plus allowances for stitching. If the fabric is thin, then tighten its outer part with interlining, ironing it on the wrong side. Fold the parts inward with the front sides, mark the outer contour of the buckle with a piece of chalk or with a pencil. The inner contour should be marked with a line of small stitches. Cut the fabric inside the stitching, and leave about 5 mm seam allowances around the perimeter, nipple the corners.
Cut a piece of fabric close to the line in short sections for lintels. Then unscrew the part on the front side and slide it onto the buckle. The seam must be on the inner edge of the buckle. The part of the fabric that you cut for the permulee, cut it now, adjusting it to the width of the buckle and glue it with special glue for the fabric, and then sew it crosswise to the bottom. Stitches should not be visible from the front. At the corners, cut the bottom part of the fabric and twist it, then wrap the buckle with its edges, fold it and hem it with small stitches from the side of the inner seam. Make sure that the stitches are not visible on the front side of the belt.
Wide belt: manufacturing features
This belt is called "Obi", it can be sewn both from fabric and from leather or suede. Such a model belt wrinkles very elegant and luxurious. First of all, you need to measure the waist circumference and prepare the necessary materials. For tailoring obi belt, you will need: any fabric, leather, dermantin or suede, non-woven fabric and printed pattern (pictured). The scale of the pattern - 1 square corresponds to 2.5 cm of the product, the pattern includes allowances for seams of 0.5 cm. Details of the belt pattern:
- Detail of the middle part of the belt with a fold.
- 2 side parts of the product.
- 2 details for a tie - with a bend.
- 2 details for a brush.
First, perform tucks in the front, combining the points that are transferred from the paper pattern. Along the tucks will need to lay the lines with a sewing machine. Cut the fabric from the sides to sweep manually or overlock. You can also glue the side edges of the thinnest non-woven fabric, pressing it on them.
Slices of the side of the product must be sewn over with a “hem” stitch.
Connect the side parts of the belt with the middle one by folding the side with the central, right sides inward. In this case, the side sections should be aligned exactly. Now the parts can be trimmed together and smoothed the new seam, the cut should be smoothed to the side of the product. On the front side, make a machine stitch, departing from the edge of about 5 mm. Make sure that the line and the distance from the edge are smooth throughout, or the work will look sloppy. The stitch will not only carry a decorative function, it will also strengthen the side seam.
Now you need to start processing the strings. Fold the seam to the inside of the seam on both sides and fold them in half, and then otstrochite on the front side along the long side. Also stitch the 2nd stitch. Fold it three times along the long edge and fold in the part. Then the product is ironed with iron and bend the rest. Next stitch on a sewing machine.
Place one free end of the tie in the narrow part on the side to a depth of at least 2 cm. Then otstrochite edge, connecting the details of the product. Do the same with the second stitch.
Decorate the loose edges of the ties with tassels as shown in the photo. To brush held firmly secure them with machine stitching.
How to sew a belt in the shape of the body?
Figured belt is made on a special pattern and exactly matches the shape of the body. It can be wide or narrow, and also, like a belt with a buckle, is strengthened with a lining-seal or interlining in several layers.
