The difficulty of selecting an effective and safe drug for a child, especially an infant, is known to all mothers without exception. In a critical situation, sometimes it remains only to hope for a miracle and rely on such controversial means as "Nimulid", banned in several countries because of the potential threat to the child's body. However, is it really so unsafe, and is its use justified in the difficult stages of the disease? What do doctors say about the drug?
"Nimulid" for children: instructions for use
The active ingredient of the drug is nimesulide, a selective inhibitor of prostaglandins and COX-1, which reduces inflammation, pain and fever. In the children's suspension, in addition to the active substance, there are flavoring agents that make taking the medicine more comfortable. The result of taking nimesulide is observed already in 45-60 minutes. and lasts for 12 hours. From the body is almost completely excreted in the urine.
- Indications for the use of "Nimulida" in children are infectious diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract, as well as inflammation after surgery, joint pain.
- The drug is contraindicated in case of damage to the gastrointestinal tract mucosa (including ulcers), liver and kidney failure, and individual intolerance to any NVPS. Therapy of children under 6 years old should be monitored by the attending physician.
The most difficult moment in the use of "Nimulida" in a child is the calculation of the correct dosage. The instruction offers averaged values calculated by the weight of the baby, but experts advise for the initial dose of half the dose.
- The total daily dosage for a child should not exceed 5 mg of active substance per kg of weight. Moreover, this volume is divided into 2-3 doses.

Suspension for children "Nimulid": reviews of parents and doctors
Since the solution has a lower concentration than the pill, and is also better absorbed by the body, the number of negative comments on the children's medicine is much lower than in relation to an adult. However, it is impossible to say that all parents and specialists recommend using Nimulid to relieve symptoms of fever and pain.
Tatyana, 26 years old: "Nimulid" we were prescribed by a pediatrician, and after her recommendation (moreover, the product was already purchased) I began to look for someone else's reviews. I read such nightmares that I spent the whole evening wondering if it was worth the risk. But her daughter's suffering from the heat during an intestinal infection (the temperature was kept below 40) left no choice, and I still gave her 1/3 tsp. suspensions. After 2 h, her daughter became much better, the temperature dropped to 37.2. However, tachycardia and general weakness, which lasted the whole day, became a side effect.
Alena, 40 years old: I save a child (3 g) during severe infections with Nimulid, since there are significantly fewer adverse reactions from it than from antibiotics. However, if it is possible to get by with even lighter medicines, I make a choice in their favor. Dosage always take 30% less than in the instructions.
With regard to the opinions of doctors, the most famous review Komarovsky on "Nimulid" for children. An article on the prohibition of the drug, in which he examines the reasons for such a decree and concludes that there are more dangerous drugs (the same antibiotics), and the likelihood of a real threat to the liver from nimesulide over the long term has not been confirmed. However, Dr. Komarovsky notes that "Nimulid" should be used only as an emergency remedy, in the case when weaker drugs do not help. Especially for the reason that such a sharp and strong drop in temperature is not natural for the body.
Summing up, it is worth saying that the threat from taking Nimulida may indeed be hypertrophied, but it is necessary to use it (especially for a child’s body) with extreme caution and in smaller doses than the official instructions suggest. Before offering this suspension to your child, try to do with paracetamol.
