Pulse is the number of heartbeats per minute. Its frequency, as a source of information about the state of the heart for many years, has been ignored by medicine. All attention was directed primarily to the level of blood pressure. It was believed that hypertension and atherosclerosis determine the effectiveness of the heart muscle. After several years of research, it turned out, however, that it is the pulse that is of great importance for the quality and duration of life.
On average, the human heart beats with a frequency of 60-70 times or more per minute - this part of the pulse is the norm in adults. A person is programmed for a lifetime of approximately 3 billion hits. People with rapid pulse, more than 80 beats per minute, much more often have heart attacks, and, unfortunately, the probability of dying because of this is much higher compared to those whose heart is slower.

There are several classes of drugs that reduce heart rate (B-blockers, calcium channel blockers, ivabradine), however, the best way is regular physical activity.

Pulse is called undulating deformation of the artery, with heart rate. The constriction of the heart chambers creates a so-called impulse wave in the arteries. Heart rate is the number of heartbeats per minute.
The heart rate of a person depends on many factors. Age, emotional state, illness affects its various meanings. Heart rate with age varies approximately as follows:
- fetus: 110-150 beats / min;
- in young children: 130 beats / min;
- children: 100 beats / min;
- in adolescents: 85 beats / min;
- adults: 70 beats / min;
- in the elderly: 60 beats / min.

As we know, normal heart rate varies from 60 to 80 beats per minute. In athletes, the heart rate can be as low as that of a 60 year old person. If the heart rate exceeds the rate for your heart rhythm, this condition is known as tachycardia, if it falls below normal - this is bradycardia. Heart rate varies throughout the day, depending on the tasks you perform. For example, the pulse during sleep can drop to 40 beats per minute, and during exercise - rise to 150 - 200.
Causes Affecting Heart Rate
Heart rate above 95 beats (at rest) is considered abnormal. Faster heartbeat may indicate some disturbances in our body or be caused by other factors. May occur in the process of digestion, arousal, nervous disorders, febrile diseases, accelerated metabolism, heart failure, during bleeding. Heart rate is accelerated during intercourse. Slow pulse occurs in diseases of the brain, poisoning.

Heart rate at rest 60-70 beats per minute. To check the frequency, simply place the fingertips on the artery, for example, on the neck or on the wrist (the thumb pad directly on the radial artery located in the wrist area). Count the heartbeats and record the time (on the clock or stopwatch) for 60 seconds.
Checking the pulse rate can help identify problems, but this does not mean that it is a complete indicator of anomalies of the body. Pulse measurement is only a tool for diagnostics and, therefore, only a qualified specialist can understand the danger of its changes.
