How to put an enema at home?

You will need:

  1. Thermometer to measure water temperature.
  2. Capacity for liquid, as a rule, is used by the Esmarch circle. This is a rubber cylinder with a capacity of 0.75 to 1.5 liters. The bottom of this cup should be flat with the nipple (tube) drawn on the rib.
  3. Intestinal tube with a tip length from 8 to 15 cm. It is better to take a rubber tip. Before use, the tip is boiled.
  4. Oilcloth to prevent contamination of the bed.
  5. Bedpan.
  6. Rubber tube, conducting fluid with a tap to control the flow of fluid into the intestines.

Enema at home: how to put?

Instruction:

  • A man who is given an enema lies on his left side with his knees pulled up to his stomach. The Esmarch mug is poured liquid for an enema (temperature 40-42 degrees), raised to the top, then the tip is lowered down to release some water and accumulated air.
  • Fill the mug completely prepared liquid and put on a rubber tube with a tap. Grease the tip with petroleum jelly or grease before use, then insert the tube into the anus. Buttocks should be slightly spread by hand to facilitate insertion of the tip. The tip is inserted at 8 - 10 cm and slightly rotated with light rotational movements, overcoming the resistance of the muscles. If any obstacles arise during insertion of the tip (the tube rests against the intestinal wall or fecal stone), remove the tip 1 - 2 cm and open the valve.
  • When using the Esmarkh mug is raised to a height of 1 m. Thus, water under pressure enters the intestine.
  • If the tip is blocked with feces, it is removed from the anus and the tube is inserted again. If the stool is too hard and you cannot get an enema, you have to take the feces with your fingers, first putting a rubber glove smeared with Vaseline on your hand.
  • If there is gas in the patient, the mug is lowered below the bed so that the gases come out, then they raise it again.
  • To prevent air from entering the intestine, leave some water in the mug, close the tap and remove the tip.
  • In order for the “operation” to be successful, the patient must hold the fluid in himself for 10 minutes and then go empty.
  • After the procedure, the Esmarch’s mug is washed and wiped dry.

Enema at home child

Conducting the technique of setting up enemas for children at home has its own characteristics. These features must be considered in order not to harm the child, because the child’s intestines are not as “fat” as in an adult.

Enema baby

  • First of all, it is necessary to clarify to the child the need for the procedure and calm it down. If the child begins to act up, then no matter how hard you try, the effect of the cleansing enema will not be. It is better to visually show the child that there is nothing terrible, for example, on a doll.
  • Put the child so that he was comfortable. As a rule, it is put in the same way as an adult. You can also put the baby on his back, put a ship under his back, and lay a diaper.
  • The tip of the enema is necessarily lubricated with petroleum jelly or fat to facilitate the process of entering the anus.
  • Water is introduced before the first unpleasant feelings of the child, after holding the hose and wait a little. You can then reintroduce fluid into the intestines. Fluid is injected until the child can tolerate.
  • If your child is normally undergoing an enema, you can inject large amounts of fluid in order to thoroughly clean the intestines.

The recommended amount of water for enema at home to the child:

  1. From 3 to 6 years - 1.5 liters of water
  2. From 6 to 9 years old - 2 liters of water
  3. From 9 to 14 years old - 3-4 liters of water (injected in several receptions)
