Zinnia

Not only chrysanthemums and asters are worthy representatives of the extensive Astrov family, deserving frequent planting at their summer cottage. Zinnias have a lesser degree of fame, but by no means less - attractiveness in terms of aesthetics and ease of caring for them. A flower can even grow in an apartment if it is given a large pot, where there will be no one besides it. But it is better to arrange a cynia in a flower bed, where she is able to sit for several years.

Zinnia: growing from seed at home

In the middle lane, it is best to grow zinia from seed to seedlings, because the flower is very thermophilic, and the seeds will not hatch in the cold ground. Only residents of the southern regions can afford to work with a flower in the open field at the early stages, if spring comes early. At the same time, anyway, the sowing time varies each time depending on weather conditions. It is noteworthy that the zinnia begins to bloom in the middle of the third month of its life, so even if you drastically tighten with the sowing and think about it only in May, already by August medium-sized buds will bloom in the flower bed.

The seeds of tsiniya are large, they have a high germination rate with a high percentage of probability, as a result of which they are lowered into the ground one by one, buried by 1-1.5 cm, keeping a distance of 3-5 cm if the common box is selected. But it is best to sow zinia immediately in separate pots: for example, peat. For the same purpose, you can use peat tablets: you do not have to unravel the roots of seedlings when picking, and the process of transplanting to open ground will be easier, and the probability of damage to the root system will significantly decrease. Term sowing seedlings for seedlings - mid-March or early April. But if the spring is delayed, you can move these dates by the end of April. This is due to the fact that shoots are pulled out very quickly, and it is unwise to keep them in limited containers, which will negatively affect their further development, adaptation to open ground and flowering.

The ground for zinnia seeds is not much different from what is selected for other ornamental flowering plants: peat is always added to the garden soil, as well as some sand, which will contribute to good air exchange. Peat in relation to the land can have a proportion of 1: 1 - seedlings approve of this. But an adult plant will have to make less peat. If necessary, a little compost is added, although mineral fertilizers can also play its role, which some growers add to the soil when sowing tsinii. However, even without this step, the seeds hatch very quickly, and by the end of the 1st week green shoots appear above the ground. But it is necessary to moisten the soil after sowing, as well as tighten it with a film in which several small holes are made with a needle. The too high humidity of tsiniia seedlings is also not to their liking, and instead of airing it every 3-4 hours, it is wiser to do a natural air exchange.

The film is removed when shoots appear, i.e. 6-7 days after sowing. However, it is advisable to keep cups or a box with seedlings for another 4-5 days in a shaded place, and only at the end of the 2nd week should be brought closer to the window. If you sowed tsiniya in a single container, they will have to be seated after the seedlings are stretched to 8-10 cm in height. At the same time, they need to be deepened by 1.5-2 cm. And if the pick is not done (the seedlings are sitting in single pots), then simply spud each plant, creating a small mound at the stem. This is necessary for the emergence of adventitious shoots.

At the same time, it is required to carry out the initial pinching, removing the shoots at the main root at the level of 2 cm. In the future, pinching and pruning will be carried out often enough for the cynium to bush well: the wider it is, the more attractive the plant looks. And, also, more abundant bloom. Often at this stage (age 12-14 days) young tsiniia bushes are carried out on the balcony or placed on the windowsill, where a ventilation window often opens. The main thing is to take care of the closed door, so as not to create a deadly draft for the seedlings. The hardening procedure usually lasts 28-30 days, after which tsinii are planted in open ground. The total waiting time before transplanting a flower should not exceed 35 days from the time of sowing.

If you wish, you can leave the zinia in the apartment, but you will need to pick up a large (at least 30 cm) diameter pot, because the plant likes space. But the depth of the tank does not matter. Convenient climatic conditions, up to protection from the winter cold, are also much easier to create indoors than at the dacha, which has a positive effect on tsini life.

Zinnia: planting and care in the open field

If you wish, you can start growing zinia immediately in the open field, however, it will be sown in May when the earth warms up. For the southern regions this may be the end of April, for the Urals and Siberia - the middle of May. Pre-worth soak the seeds in a solution Epin, to increase their resistance to possible light night frosts. Growth stimulants are not needed for cynyas - the plant already pecks up very quickly (in 7-10 days) and gains strength. And yet such a course can not affect the timing of flowering: tsiniia planted in the dacha bloom only in mid-summer. If you want to see open buds earlier, sow zinia in a greenhouse or greenhouse. However, after this it is necessary to swoop down and carry it to a flower bed.

In open ground, seeds are usually buried more strongly than when working with containers — by 4–5 cm, and up to 3 seeds can be planted in the nest at once. Here they will have enough free space, and picking is not required, but a few bushes form a more lush and attractive flower. But between the nests still need to maintain a distance of 30-35 cm, the same applies if you want to plant seedlings.

Depending on what weather conditions prevail at the time of sowing, the need for additional protection of seedlings appears or disappears. If there is a risk of nocturnal cold weather, it is advisable to cover each well in the evening with a kind of cap made of a plastic bottle or cardboard box, where several air exchange holes are punched. Within 4-5 days after sowing, you can not even remove the cap during the day, but then its material must be transparent, otherwise the seedlings will be in the shade and will not rise as quickly as expected.

Zinnia: landing and care

When planting tsinii in open ground, if they were sown at home in containers? The term is the same as for sowing a flower: beginning or middle of May (15-17 numbers), if there is no frost. Zinia will survive lowering the temperature to 4 degrees at night, but young seedlings are undesirable to fall into more uncomfortable conditions. If it happened so that you planted a tsiniya at the dacha, and the weather forecasters promised a cold night, you need to either wrap the bushes alternately with a covering material, or create a greenhouse with it over the flowerbed.

Caring for cynia in the open field begins with the proper selection of the site on which it will grow. The place should be sunny, almost non-shading, and also not occupied by other large-sized flowers. Zinnia can coexist with ground cover plants, but it is better to plant it singly, filling the remaining space with lawn grass. Placing bushes near walls and buildings is also not recommended - the slightest shading affects the abundance of flowering and brightness of the petals.

However, the hue of foliage and flowers will also be affected by the chemical composition of the soil: zinia is very responsive to fertilizers that should be applied both before planting, and before flowering, and in the middle of this period. You can resort to simple compost, you can buy special mineral fertilizers, and most professionals are inclined to the need to combine them. Proved that the brightest foliage and large flowers in tsiniya growing on fertile, rich land.

As for irrigation, its abundance is much more attractive for tsynia than drought, albeit short-lived. Excess water can be compensated for loosening the substrate, as well as adding a small amount of sand and drainage to the bottom of the well. The lack of moisture leads to the fact that the lower leaves of the tsiniya dry up, and the flowers become smaller, and their number on the bush is reduced.

Planting tsiniya and caring for it in the open field under the power of every gardener: the seeds are unpretentious and have a high degree of germination, the seedlings grow quickly, young bushes with good lighting and frequent watering retain their appeal to the very cold. And in order for the zinnia to bloom as long as possible, it is necessary to constantly remove drying out buds.
