This culture prefers a rather fertile, non-acidic substrate. Therefore, never plant onion seeds on acidic, sandy, heavy, marshy and clay soils, otherwise you will not get a harvest. In the middle lane, the batun seeds are recommended to be planted in the middle of spring, as they germinate faster and take root carefully. You will receive the harvest in July. If you plant onions in the summer, the harvest will be only next year.

Before sowing, seeds are soaked in a solution of potassium permanganate for 25 minutes, after which they are thoroughly washed and soaked again, but only in warm water and for 2 days. Do not forget to change the water from time to time.

The seeds are planted into the ground as follows: 5 cm apart, and between the rows — 15 cm, the planting depth should be no more than 3 cm. If the planting is too thick, the feathers will be thin, and when deep, the seeds are not will ascend.

Before planting onions in an open area, the soil must be fertilized with compost and wood ash. Due to the ability of the batun to accumulate salts of nitric acid, it is recommended that nitrogen-containing fertilizers be applied carefully and in moderation. It is recommended to feed onions only in early spring. Before the appearance of the first sprouts, be sure to loosen the soil. Also do not forget to remove the weeds.

Some gardeners use seed tapes to simplify planting tasks. The distance between them should be no more than 55 cm, and between the rows - 30 cm. If the soil is light and sandy, place the tape in the ground to a depth of 1 cm, on clayey soil - to a depth of 5 mm. Note that the batun is moisture-loving, so do not forget about regular watering with warm water. With a lack of moisture, onion feathers grow coarse and bitter.

After each watering, be sure to loosen the crust formed on the soil surface to protect the plant from oxygen starvation. In the spring the batun is recommended to cover with polyethylene. In the autumn, do not forget to remove flowering stems, because, drying out, they become an attractive place for pests in the cold season.

When the period of onion growth at one place expires, it is cut (it is advisable to do this before the beginning of August). A baton is used for cooking when its arrows reach 15 cm in length. During harvesting, it is recommended not to pluck the feathers, but carefully cut them with scissors. After each assembly, add mineral fertilizers (for example, mullein or wood ash) to the soil.

The onion batun is suitable for cultivation not only at the dacha, but also at home on a window sill. To get a good crop of crops, it is necessary to dig out bushes in the garden, which are not less than 2 years old, without shaking the ground from the roots into a container. Capacity with onions is placed on the windowsill, periodically watered and waiting for the harvest. Fresh greens will appear in 3-4 weeks, it can be eaten.

Bunching onions: growing

Among the methods of growing onion batuna, which will allow you to pamper yourself with vitamin grass all year round, is cultivation of crops in the greenhouse. To do this, you will need a heated greenhouse and peat soil. To increase the yield, soak the bulbs at 45 degrees, then cut them. Do not forget about regular watering and fertilizer. In addition, in the greenhouse you need to maintain the temperature regime - 20 degrees during the day and 15 degrees at night. In the autumn-winter period, special lamps provide additional illumination for 12 hours. Lamps are installed at right angles to prevent the batun’s feathers from dying.

Onions batun is subject to some diseases. For example, on the stems may appear spots of green with a grayish bloom, which indicates peronosporoze (fungal disease). Because of the fungus, the onion ceases to grow and does not yield a crop, therefore it is necessary to process it in time with fungicides (for example, copper oxychloride). Batun feathers come to taste to the larvae of the onion fly, which can be dealt with by treating the soil with chlorophos. If you notice that onion feathers turn yellow, this indicates a lack of watering in the heat, a lack of nutrients or an onion fly attack.
