How to read jacquard patterns?

Each cell in the pattern for knitting a jacquard pattern with knitting needles is one loop, and the horizontal line is a row. Rows that are knitted with face loops should be read from left to right, and purl loops - from right to left. If in addition to the scheme there are notes that the work is knitted on circular knitting needles, then all rows are knitted only with facial eyelets.

When knitting a Scandinavian pattern in a classic stocking way, the scheme of work is read from top to bottom. The shaded cells in the diagrams indicate the color gamut, and the empty cells represent the main background color of knitting.

How to knit jacquard two-color patterns with knitting needles?

As mentioned above, almost all jacquard patterns are knitted with a thread of two colors. This is done with the intention that the ornament pattern is not too thick and does not stand out strongly against the background of the finished work.

Jacquard patterns with broach

For knitting two-tone jacquard patterns, 2 knitting techniques are used to make knitting. The essence of the first one is that the loops are knitted with the color specified in the scheme, and the unnecessary thread goes into the broach from the wrong side of the knitting.

The second method is the so-called jacquard patterns without broaches, when the threads do not stretch freely along the row, but are evenly woven into the work. In this case, from the seamy side, free broaches are not formed, but honeycombs are obtained from two interlacing threads: broaching and working.

As a result, the image will be displayed on both sides of the finished work. The only difference that will be between the front and the back side of the product is color inversion.

Jacquard thread knitting on both sides is twice as dense as usual. That is why this method is most often used for knitting warm blankets, winter scarves and hats, children's jackets and vests.

When the technology of basic jacquard patterns is mastered, you can invent your own variations of the patterns and knit the products almost without looking at the scheme.
