What a sounding, original, one can even say beautiful name - hypoestes.
What is it and what is it eaten with, as they say?
It's simple. Hypoestes is a cultural plant representative characteristic of South Africa, as well as Madagascar.
The appearance of the hypoestes
Two common species of hypoetestes are distinguished: leaf-thorny and blood-red.
The first is distinguished by the soft surface of a sheet plate, which in color is close to violet and reddish hues.
The flowers of the leaflet hypoestes are not collected in inflorescences, but arranged separately.
The plant of this species group is represented by all sorts of many varieties.
Hypoestes spruce is most common in the forests of the tropical island of Madagascar.
The blood-red hypoestes are represented by a dwarf shrub that grows in the shade of the forest part of Madagascar, as well as in the countries of South Africa.
In height, hypoestes are blood-red up to fifty centimeters. Its branches are growing very actively, which allows you to form quite a thick landing.
The leaf plates of the plant are narrowed, but generally ovoid. In length they reach from five to eight centimeters, and in width no more than three - four centimeters.
The edges of the leaf plate of the hypoestes blood-red are not even. They form some waviness. Foliage has a dark, rich green color. In some places, small reddish streaks or spots can be observed on the surface of the leaf plate.
Flowers very small with a light red beater.
Use of hypoestes
- The plant is used for decorative plantings, since its other purpose is not known.
- Taking into account the fact that conditions close to its native and natural habitats can be created only in the home or apartment bounds, since the temperature regime of our spring and winter and autumn will not transfer the hypoestes to the hygiene, therefore, the plant is used for decorating the house or apartment .
- With success, you can combine planting hypoestes with other plants. However, it is necessary to ensure the normal conditions of your planting, as well as when growing only hypoestes.
To plant the hypoestes, select a free and spacious tank. It should be placed drainage of pebbles or river pebbles, and on top to pour a special soil composition. The soil for hypoestes is purchased in specialized stores or prepared independently. So if you are not too lazy and make a little effort, then you can do it yourself, prepare your own soil composition for planting the hypoestes. To do this, take in proportion 2: 1: 1: 1 of leafy soil, peat, sand and humus and mix these components well.
Planting takes place with the help of seeds or cuttings.
You can purchase and grown young plants. However, when transplanting them, be very careful with the root system.
Experts recommend that old (two to three-year-old) plantings be updated with new young bushes, so to speak, only grown up.
If you decide not to buy plants in stores, and grow from seed or cuttings, then take the trouble to plant twice. First, in small containers until firm rooting, and then to a permanent place of residence.-
Remember the fact that your plant needs good sanctification. However, it should not be positioned in such a way that direct sunlight would dry up the foliage of the hypoestes on a warm summer day. Well, if the landing will fall slightly dimmed light. To do this, curtain the windows with thick tulle, and place the containers with plants not on the windowsill, but next to the window on a small table or nightstand.
The western or eastern side of the house is perfect for your hypoestes. The southern side is also nothing, but the northern side is not a very good choice.
In winter, you will have to provide your landing with additional artificial sanctification. Illumination with the help of daylight bulbs is an excellent solution to all problems associated with a lack of light.
Since at home you can provide the hypoestes with the proper temperature conditions, which is very good, then try to maintain the temperature not lower than twenty to twenty-five degrees.
A sharp jump in the degree ratio will lead to the fact that your shrub will lose foliage, as it will successfully fly around from the transferred stress.
The lowest temperature threshold should not fall below plus seventeen.
And remember, be sure that the drafts of the hypoestes will not suffer !!!
Watering is carried out only well-defended water. Better to make it as soft as possible.
The most abundant watering occurs in the summer and spring.
An interesting fact is that it is hypoestes that very actively evaporates water accumulated in itself through leafy plates.
You yourself can observe how quickly the soil around the planting becomes dry and signals the need for a new portion of water for irrigation. However, it should not, and flood the plant, as this can lead to rotting of the root system. A consequence of this process of decay is the death of the entire landing.
High humidity is also a very, very significant condition for the normal growth and development of your hypoestes. Accordingly, do not be lazy to place near the landings basins or bowls of water. Steaming, it will provide the proper level of humidity. You can also use a pallet with water under the tub with your hypoeces.
Do not forget about fertilizer. They are very important. Fertilizing is best in summer and autumn. And you can carry out procedures for adding nutrients to the soil for three seasons in a row, starting in early spring and ending in late autumn.
Feed once every three weeks - this is the right approach to growing your hypoestes.
It is best to acquire complex fertilizers, which must include potassium. Nitrogen can be made and less, because its excessive use leads to the formation of colored spots on the sheet plate.
Organic fertilizers are also excellent.
In order for the plant to branch well and look voluminous, it should be pinched. This procedure is performed on the tips of young shoots.
