Stains from engine oil can be safely classified as difficult to remove. They often do not disappear when washed with conventional powders. That is why almost everyone who is faced with such pollution is concerned with the question of how to clean such a stain qualitatively without damaging the fabric.

How to wash out the engine oil?

Stains from engine oil, like any others, are distinguished by the time of their formation and the degree of penetration into the depth of the fabric. Thus, it is necessary to distinguish between fresh and old stains, those that are still on the surface and deep, are well absorbed into the fabric. Accordingly, for each type of pollution has its own method of removal.

How to remove the stain of engine oil?

As a rule, it is easier to deal with newly appeared, stains on the surface. Therefore, if you or one of your household gets dirty with engine oil, take action immediately. First you need to check how deep the stain has penetrated the fabric. To do this, lay the thing on a flat surface.

  • If the contamination has not penetrated deeply, prepare a mixture of any laundry detergent and water (according to its consistency, this tool should resemble sour cream) and apply it on the stain. The powder should remain on the fabric for about 10-20 minutes. Pollution site rub with vigorous movements. Periodically wash off the formed foam with hot water. Stain powder must be processed by analogy several times in a row. Complete this procedure is necessary, having washed the thing in the washing machine.
  • A little more effort you have to make if the oil has already soaked the fabric. In this case, the stain will have to be processed from two sides - from the outside and inside. First you need to get rid of excess oil. So it will be easier to remove the pollution. To do this, you need to put a white napkin under the stain (a rolled piece of white fabric will do). Dampen another napkin or cotton pad in aviation kerosene or gasoline and, making light movements from the edges of the polluted area to its center, remove all excess oil, then place the stain, blot with a dry cloth. As a rule, after the interaction of gasoline and fabric, traces remain on the latter, therefore, the contaminated place must be carefully washed by hand. If the fabric is rough and you cannot wash it with your hands, use a clothes brush. A particular problem is an old spot. Before removing it, you need to soften a little. Moisten two pieces of white cloth in gasoline and place one of them under the stain, the other on the stain. In this position, the thing must be left for 15-20 minutes. Then you can try to remove the pollution with detergents. If you can not get rid of it, it is better to contact a dry cleaner.
  • Another tool that is used to remove stains from engine oil is solvent. However, it can damage the fabric, so before using it, examine its composition. Many materials under the action of a solvent can spread or change color.

When dealing with engine oil stains, remember that it is much easier to wash out fresh dirt. You can cope with them at home. If you are dealing with an old stain, it is better to contact a dry cleaner. Thus, you will save your time and energy.
