Guzmania is a beautiful plant, which is a rosette of green leaves, ending in contrasting bright bracts, the mission of which is to surround the flowers themselves. It is because of the bright flower stalk we love this amazing plant. The leaves of the Guzman are belt-like. Collected leaves help the plant in natural conditions to accumulate water and gradually consume it.

In order to properly care for a guzman, it is necessary to provide the flower as close as possible to the environment of its natural existence.

How to properly care for guzmanii at home?

  • The first aspect in the proper cultivation of this flower is lighting. Despite the fact that the plant is quite unpretentious, it should be grown at home in places inaccessible to direct sunlight. The ideal lighting solution for such a flower is partial shade. If the windows of your apartment overlook the sunny side, then place the gusmania on a stand near the window, so that the light does not fall on the leaves. If you do not have such an opportunity, then create an artificial penumbra. For this you need to cover the window with either a thin sheet of paper or cotton fabric. But with the onset of winter, the Guzmania can be moved to a window where the flower will feel pretty good.

  • If in the winter in the home the light is not enough, then it is necessary to create an additional source of light. Such a source can be a fluorescent lamp. Put it must be near the flower. Included such a lamp must be at least 8 hours a day. Sunlight can cause burns from sun exposure. They appear as yellow-brown spots on the leaves.
  • The correct temperature regime is also one of the components of the normal development of guzmania at home. In this regard, guzmaniya unpretentious. The optimum temperature for a flower is a standard room. As a rule, about 20-25 degrees in the summer and 16-20 in the winter. In the summer, you can create the ideal conditions for humming by sending a flower to the street or a balcony. But here we should also recall the lighting and not place the flower under the scorching sun. If you cannot provide such conditions, it is enough just to air the room. Airing is desirable in winter and summer. It should be remembered that guzmaniya does not like drafts, so you need to air with caution.
  • As for watering, its intensity must be determined in accordance with the conditions of the room where the flower grows. If you do not have the ability to keep the humming in a room with high humidity, compensate for this with watering, frequent spraying and rubbing the leaves.
  • In summer, the plant must be watered when the soil dries. That is, you will have to do this almost every day. In the cold season, however, it is necessary to water Guzmania 1-2 times a week (this is on condition that the temperature in the room is no higher than 20 degrees). In addition, it should be remembered that at low temperatures in a room with a flower, only the roots need to be watered. With the onset of spring, with increasing temperatures both outdoors and indoors, watering should be carried out so that the water falls not only on the ground at the root, but also in the rosette of leaves.
  • During the flowering period, watering should be strengthened. In hot weather in the outlet should always be moisture, so it is very important in the morning to fill up the water there. So that the water in the outlet does not stagnate, it must be drained from there every month, and then pour a new one. To water Guzmania, use soft settled water. The temperature of the water for irrigation should be slightly higher than the room temperature. However, you should not show too much diligence in watering, since an excess of moisture is also bad for humming, as is its lack.

  • Home-style gusmania should be fed regularly. This is especially necessary in the period of active growth and flowering plants. For fertilizing guzmanii any universal fertilizer is suitable.
  • Quite often, guzmania suffers from fungal diseases. Such diseases are caused by excessive moisture. In order for this to not happen, do not forget to ensure that the water in the outlet of the leaves does not stagnate. At the same time, if the air is too dry, then the plant can strike shchitovki and spider mites. To get rid of flail, it is necessary to treat the leaves of the flower with a solution of soap and water. If it does not help, then use special tools. If a spider mite appeared on the Guzman (as evidenced by the appearance of a small spider web on the plant), then the affected leaves should be immediately removed. The plant itself must be treated with a special tool to combat these pests (insecticide).
  • A white bloom may appear on the leaves of the Guzman. This suggests that too hard water was used in watering or spraying. Therefore, be careful to use soft, defended water for these purposes. If the tips of the leaves of the plant are a little yellow, this indicates a lack of moisture and humidity.
